Daytrotter a Day #11: I Am Ampersand (Released 11.28.12)

Matthew Hainsby of Fujiya & Miyagi has a side project called I Am Ampersand.  "20 Seas for Oceans" starts with a riff a little too reminiscent of Norman Greenbaum's "Spirit in the Sky."  Unfortunately, it never reaches anywhere near the heights of Greenbaum's fuzzy anthem.  About two and a half minutes in, a retro keyboard sound arrives to shake things up, but it ends up just sounding like "Tainted Love."  "Minus Sign" is brief and unmemorable.  "The Last Thing on Your Mind" was literally the last thing on my mind when I listened.  It's not horrible, but with so many Daytrotter sessions available, this one is definitely skippable.
